Install Solar Panels - Guide to Understand its Various Aspects

    How does a solar PV panel works ?


    When light strikes a silicon semiconductor, it makes the electrons flow thus producing electricity. Solar power generating systems benefit from this property and convert sunlight into direct current (DC) electrical energy. An inverter unit later converts this into alternating current (AC). Any excess energy can be stored in a battery storage system and can be later used by you.


    For maximum efficiency, Solar PV panels must be installed in north facing direction at an optimal angle pointed directly at the Sun and not obstructed by trees or shading. The effectiveness of the system also depends on your location as well as the weather.


    Solar Panels


    Solar PV panels are made of several solar cells, arranged together in a tightly bound structure and sandwiched between a protective glass and a backing plate. The entire panel is generally surrounded by an aluminum frame. A single solar cell generates only about 1/2 (0.5) of a volt. A typical 12-volt panel is nearly about 25 inches by 54 inches and contains 36 cells connected in a series to produce about 17 volts.

      1. Monocrystalline Panels


    Monocrystalline panels are usually made from high-quality silicon and have the highest efficiency rating. The cells are cut from silicon in a cylindrical fashion and look like wafers. They make wise use of space and offer a high power yield per square foot. These panels are known to perform better than their counterparts in low-light conditions. Monocrystalline panels generally come with a warranty that last for as long as 25 years.


      2. Polycrystalline Panels


    Just like monocrystalline panels, this type of system is also made from silicon wafers cut from artificially grown crystals. But, multiple interlocking silicon crystals grown together are used to manufacture these panels, instead of single crystals. This type of panel is economical to produce and a good option for many homeowners.


      3. Thin Film


    Thin film solar panels are made by putting down layer upon layer of a photovoltaic element like organic photovoltaic cells or amorphous silicon. Generally, problems like shading and low-light conditions do not hinder their performance. These panels are lightweight and an affordable option. 

    Generally, the efficiency of these panels depends on the electricity output of the panel compared to its surface area. The higher the efficiency of the panel, the more power it will be able to produce from a given roof area. However, if you have plenty of roof space, buying low-priced panels with lower efficiency can prove to be more economical.
