Telecom Feb 2011: Net additions robust, Vodafone leads

February net additions at 14.7 million; month on month growth of 7.1%:

The net additions trend remained robust with February witnessing an addition of 14.7 million SIM cards (+7.1% on m-o-m basis) as against 13.72 million added in the month of January.

- The aggregate total SIM base (excluding Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices) grew to ~551 million, indicating a rise of 2.72% over the January numbers

Vodafone posts one of its highest net additions at 3.56 million:

- Vodafone added 3.56 million new subscribers, +14.4% on a m-o-m basis. The company’s total subscriber base in the month stood at 130.92 million subscribers against 127.36 million in January 2011 registering a growth of 2.8%.

- Its share in net additions has been steadily rising over the months; for the month under consideration it commanded a 24.2% market share vs 18.1% in Dec 2010

New players collectively add 2.2 million subscribers: 

- New players (Uninor, STel and Etisalat DB India) together added 2.2 million subscribers (+152% MoM), largely contributed by Videocon.

- Videocon posted 0.55 million net additions for the month on the back of a reduction in its subscriber base witnessed last month.
