Power: All India Aug 2010 generation up 1% y-o-y

In August 2010, all India generation was 65.4BU (v/s 64.8BU in August 2009), while overall PLF was down by 218bp to 61.4% (v/s 63.6% in August 2009). For coal and lignite based power plants, generation increased 2% YoY to 43.3BU (66% of total generation) and PLF declined 340bp y-o-y to 68.6% (down 340bp y-o-y).

For gas-based power plants, generation declined 6.3% y-o-y to 7.9BU (12% of total generation) and PLF declined 955bp to 61.7%. Muted growth in the thermal generation was on the account of y-o-y fall in the generation and PLF by 9% and 825bp respectively of state sector plants. For hydro plants, generation was almost flat at 12.2BU. Generation from central sector plants grew y-o-y by 9% and state sector plants de-grew y-o-y by 7%.
