Key points for consideration:

- The latest data for net subscribers addition during June‐2011 released by COAI (Cellular Operators Association of India) suggest that Indian mobile operators added 8.58 million subscribers.

- Total subscribers addition showed another downfall for June‐2011 at 8.5 million vs 9.5million in May‐2011.This was the lowest addition since last one and half year, below 10 million mark.

- The current trend for subscribers’ accumulation resembles that the downfall in additions is mainly due to few reasons like lower interest for dual SIMs among the subscribers which arises because of no specific changes in tariff plans from last few months and unavailability of special offers from operators for the subscribers.

- Also in some circles few operators have revised tariff plans with minimal increment. Similarly, MNP effect is also increasing which is now reached to 10.57 million

- the regulatory pressure over the industry. However we believe that it will be difficult for new entrants to gain competitive advantage over incumbents in near future, as ongoing 3G experience and various others facilities available with the incumbents will attract more subscribers to them.

- Thus, one can see ARPU growth for the incumbents with such new services over new players. Further, the upcoming NTP‐2011 and various others measures taken by govt. will offer some positive vibes to telecom sector in coming future.
