Cement: July dispatches affected by monsoon

The top four domestic cement players (ACC, Ambuja Cements, Grasim Industries and UltraTech Cement) have posted poor performances for July 2010. The cumulative volume of these four leading domestic cement players declined by 0.4% on a y-o-y basis to 5.9 million metric tonne (MMT) in this month. Further, on a sequential basis, their dispatches declined sharply by 11% on account of a slowdown in the construction activity due to the onset of the monsoon.

- ACC’s dispatches for July 2010 declined sharply by 12.4% to 1.6MMT compared with that in July 2009.

- Ambuja Cements witnessed a drop of 1.3% in its volume to 1.4MMT in July 2010. On a sequential basis, the dispatches of the company were lower by 15.8%.
