Auto: Stupendous sales growth of 33.3% y-o-y

Automobile sales for June 2010 reported a stupendous growth of 33.3% y-o-y on account of a low base of the previous year. Moreover, on a sequential basis, the volumes also grew by a marginal 1.5%, indicating a continual growth on account of a strong demand environment and the success of the new launches in the segment.

- Major automaker Maruti Suzuki continued to lead the passenger car industry with a y-o-y growth of 17.3% in its overall sales.

- In the two-wheeler segment, Hero Honda Motors (HHM) reported a y-o-y growth of 16.6% in its overall sales. Bajaj Auto registered a robust growth of 68.4% y-o-y.

- Tata Motors reported a 76% growth in its domestic passenger car sales for June 2010. Hyundai Motors’ domestic market share in the passenger car segment stood at 19.4%. Fiat India reported a 13.6% decline in its domestic sales
